Crimson Skies is a PC video-game developed by Microsoft. The game is based on the 1998 board game with the same name. The Crimson Skies universe is set in an alternate history. In 1930, the U.S has split into several small countries, and airplanes are the favored method of transport. In the game you take the role of Nathan Zachary, a young air pirate looking for fortune in the skies. The game's physics are more arcade-oriented than a simulator, but the feel of the planes is right. As the game progresses, your aircraft can be changed or configured by adding new parts. You can select the airframe, armor, engine, weapons and paint scheme. The dogfights are very entertaining as you don't have to check a million control gauges like in other simulators. The game also includes the capability for online game-play. However, the game has a lot of problems, specially with the loading times and the save games. These bugs really get annoying and spoil the fun. Nevertheless, all things considered, this is still a good game that has gained a cult following over the years.
